Water companies have since 2010 paid £405,437,850 in various worker and environmental fines, a Byline Times analysis of Violation Tracker UK data revealed. Recent attempts to force the companies to (among other things) better protect public waterways were voted down.
Analyzing Violation Tracker UK data, the Byline Times found that almost half of the violations come from the financial services industry – "despite the sector contributing to less than 10% of the UK’s economic output."
